Hey, guys! We’re a few weeks into 2021 now, and I hope you’re happy, healthy and not bogged down yet! I’m definitely fighting pandemic fatigue and trying to find margin to both heal from last year and grow in this one. I thought it might be helpful to share some tips that keep this energizer bunny going when the going gets tough.
- Accountability makes all the difference. Find someone, one person that you trust, to help you keep that workout regimen or to check in on you. I have a group chat with my three oldest friends and we rotate weekdays, each encouraging and spurring each other on in our goals.
- Double-check your goals: are they realistic and God-inspired? If you’ve never had a strong sense of self-discipline, it’s going to be mighty hard to change everything in your life(or even one area) overnight. Setting realistic goals and reevaluating regularly helps to keep the sense of failure at bay and the focus on a positive outlook. *Any* steps in the right direction qualify as progress.
- Find a mantra: a Bible verse, quote, or spoken word to memorize and pull out when you need extra motivation. I was a little obsessed with Wonder Woman last year and when the going got tough, I found myself quoting Gal Gadot’s line, “Sometimes you can’t see what you’re learning until you come out the other side.” Some scripture verses that might be helpful include: Psalm 34:10, Deuteronomy 31:8, Philippians 4:12-13, and 1 Peter 5:10.
- Reality is messy. It cares not if we have New Year’s resolutions or plans. Living in reality and allowing ourselves space to process the hardships and stressors around us can help us stay positive, mentally strong, and capable of overcoming obstacles. Acknowledge reality and its effect on you.
- Make your bed. It’s been proven time and again; making your bed seems like a minimal victory but that one simple action can frame your entire day for success.
Here is a brief explanation of why we should make our bed:
Hope this helps you keep up the battle, friends! Don’t give up, you can do this!
